Travel Burma - Strand Hotel Yangon New Year

While it runs you about 100 USD per person, the Strand’s New Year’s Eve bash starts off with a belly-busting, nine-course dinner. The price also includes lots of live entertainment, drinks, and even unusual treats like tarot card readings. Once you’ve discovered what the New Year holds in store for you, be sure to spend the night in one of Yangon’s most fabulous choices.

Travel Burma - Sedona Hotel Yangon New Year

The Sedona Hotel always ushers in the New Year with the most lavish soiree in town. At previous “Mask of Zorro,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Gladiator,” and “Batman” themed parties, guests have gotten a taste of everything from swordfights, to magic shows. Burmese language versions of popular music are performed live by the house band. No matter what the theme, you can rest assured that the Sedona will throw a bash to be remembered. (Cost: about 75-100 USD, dependent on seating arrangement).

Travel Burma - Parkroyal Hotel Yangon New Year

Five-star fab food

Parkroyal’s New Year’s Eve parties feature great live music, dancing, lucky draws, and a theme that changes from year to year, (including an Oscar-themed gala that had guests strolling down the red carpet). The bigger-than-life buffet is piled high with Japanese, Indian, Chinese, and European specialties, fresh fruit and cheeses, and endless beer, wine, and soft drinks. Special room rates are on offer, although you don’t have to be hotel guest to enjoy the occasion. (You may want to stay, however, when you consider that previous packages have included a complimentary foot massage!)

Travel Burma Kandawgyi Palace Hotel Yangon New Year

New Year’s Eve at Kandawgyi will run you about 100 USD per person, but the price can’t be beat when your countdown includes a pool and garden buffet complete with endless champagne and live performances. The hotel’s tasty Paradise restaurant offers a nine-course dinner of Chinese specialties and unforgettable ambiance for around 80 USD. Last but not least, for about 100 USD, Agnes restaurant offers unlimited champagne, fabulous French fare, and a live band.

Travel Burma Inya Lake Hotel Yangon New Year

Great food on the lake

Start your New Year off with food and fun for around 35 USD at Inya Lake Hotel. Enjoy a massive buffet, and then head to the DJ bar to party through the countdown. (The management graciously waives the cover charge, so you’ll have plenty of money left over to sample their selection of domestic and international beverages.)

Travel Burma Summit Parkview Hotel Yangon New Year

Summit Parkview features a lavish dinner party in their rooftop garden to help hotel guests and visitors ring in the New Year in style. For about 40 USD, you can stuff yourself at the buffet while enjoying a flood of champagne. Live bands, and dance performances have featured heavily at past events, and lucky draws are an added treat. If you’re still capable of moving under your own power, be sure not to miss the buffet the following day, when you can load up on all the food you can hold, while enjoying free-flowing beer, wine, tea, and juice for around 20 USD.

Travel Burma Traders Hotel Yangon New Year

Traders Hotel offers special holiday rates on December 31, and which include a breakfast buffet, as well as the annual New Year’s dinner buffet. If you are living locally or in town just for the occasion, plan to attend the buffet and/or New Year’s theme party featuring live music, and dancing, and lucky prize drawings. If you are not staying at the hotel, admission to the party will cost you around 60 USD (which is well worth it when you consider the free-flowing beverages.)
