He said this at a press conference on Wednesday at the main office of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

“All the members have discussed this. We will not be increasing petroleum prices just because it is Thingyan. We have called for this meeting to announce that petrol will be sold normally, according to global prices,” Dr Win Myint said.

He was speaking in response to rumours circulating last week that petrol prices will go up during Thingyan.

Dr Win Myint said that the association will begin checks within a month to ensure that petroleum quality and measurements are standardised throughout the nation.

“Now, we have a petroleum research lab that we can use for analysis. So within one month, there are going to be inspections in petrol stations to examine whether their petrol has the same qualities as international fuel.

“A month after the initial operation, we are going to make sure that all the stations in Yangon are standardised,” he said.

A few months after the inspections are completed, there will be plans to standardise petroleum for the whole nation.

Currently, in Yangon and other territories, there are complaints that there are differences in petrol quality and measurements in the markets.

The current (April 5) prices for fuel per litre are: diesel between K670-K705, premium diesel between K690- K720, Ron-92 between K680- K685, and Ron-95 K720.
