Foodies, take note! Myanmar’s very first food carnival is coming to town.

There’ll be black ice cream, black burgers, Pa’O ethnic foods and more. Over 100 unique dishes of Myanmar traditional and ethnic food, as well as western food, desserts and soft drinks will be available for tasting at the Duwun Food Carnival from March 26-27.

Hosted by the online millennial news source, Duwun Media Group, the carnival aims to showcase a wide variety of Myanmar foods, restaurants and brands inside People’s Square later this month.

Ye Wint Thu, the head of events at Duwun Media Group, said, “We’re trying to gather foods that aren’t that well-known outside of certain communities. I hope people will learn about new foods and enjoy coming to this event.”

The food carnival is the first of its kind in Myanmar with Duwun Media paving the way for new educational and tasty event programming.

After cooperating with Swiss media group, Ringer, the Duwun Media Group rolled out its own TV station and event coordinating team early last year.

The Duwun Food Carnival became the media group’s first and main project, seeking to highlight and promote the diversity and breadth of Myanmar food and culture.

The carnival will not only feature around 100 different food stalls but also a children activities corner, various musical performances, food lectures and panel discussions with food specialists, chefs and nutritionists.

In addition, the festival will also host a cooking competition and demonstration, according the head of sales at Duwun Media Group, Mya Pyie Sone.

Though the carnival only last two days, Ye Wint Thu hopes Duwun Media Group will put on the event for years to come and hosts other social and educational events for the public.

The Duwun Food Carnival will be open with free entrance from 11am to 8pm, March 26-27 at People’s Square.
