Govt to set up land rental system for entrepreneurs

By Khin Su Wai   |   Friday, 31 March 2017

In a meeting with the Mandalay Region Merchants and Industrialists Association, Union Minster U Kyaw Win for Planning and Finance said a land rental system will be put in place for entrepreneurs in all regions to facilitate their businesses.

“This system has already started in Yangon. The cost of land is a big investment, that’s why we are helping entrepreneurs so that they don’t need to spend huge amounts of capital on land.

“The regional government will provide land for rent and then also support the setting up of infrastructure like roads, water and electricity. This plan will be implemented before the end of the year,” he said on March 21.

He didn’t give details about the land rental plan, but firmly confirmed that it will start within this year.

Currently, some entrepreneurs have difficulties in obtaining land as they have to follow Food and Drug Administration rules and regulations.

“Our businesses are based on cottage industry. We have to operate business with technologies provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. We are producing Thanaka cosmetic products, other kinds of cosmetics and consumer products,” said U Soe Soe, vice chair of the regional Consumer Products, Medicines and Cosmetics Association.

“Our association members have three difficulties and they are technology, funding and land.

“Now there are many difficulties in seeking a license from FDA. Land in industrial zones is expensive and we need at least one acre of land. Other machines and equipments are also expensive. So we would like to call for support to deal with these problems,” he said.
